Our Story
From Customer to Owner
In 1986, having received some devastating news, I found myself in “The Hickory Stick”, my favorite happy place in Westminster, MD, in an attempt to escape the shock my brain couldn’t let go of. In this little 450 sq ft country store, I was able to temporarily lose myself. That experience led me back to the shop whenever I needed an escape & I’d find myself fantasizing about having a store of my own.
Four years later, through a miracle of God and a sister in Christ, my partner and I purchased the existing business.
Our little store grew and evolved rapidly and we found we needed to move to a larger location in Westminster. Then, in 1999, I bought my partner out and 10 years later, opened a “branch of The Stick” on the eastern shore in the quaint town of Rock Hall, MD.
